Eyelid Surgery
[Blepharoplasty]
Also known as Blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery improves the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids and/or both, and gives a rejuvenated appearance to the surrounding area of your eyes, making you look more rested and alert. As we age, excess skin usually forms in the eye are and the skin loses its elasticity and fatty tissue usually accumulates under the skin. Because of this aging process your eyes will look older because it leaves the eyes appearing tired, puffy and wrinkled.
This surgery will restore a youthful and rejuvenated look to your eyes. This is accomplished by removing and tightening excess skin and tissue around the eyes. Discreet incisions for this procedure are made along the natural creases of the upper eyelid and possible along the outer lower rim of the eye’s skin and the fatty tissue is removed at the same time. These incisions often reach the outside corners of the eyes.
Eyelid surgery is often performed under local anesthesia or under general anesthesia; the appropriate type of anesthesia for you will be discussed with you at the time of your consultation. The entire surgery takes approximately one to two hours. Recovery for this procedure is usually 1-2 weeks. Patients will be cautioned to minimize activities that require exertion and increased blood flow to the eyes, but most swelling, redness and irritation should be completely gone and the eyes will feel completely normal.
