Melasma
The term melasma refers to the dark skin discoloration that occurs due to exposure from the sun, specifically occurring on the skin. There are no other symptoms of the condition outside of the discoloration. The brown coloring is often seen on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip and the nose. It is often symmetrical on both sides of the face. Treatment for the condition occurs with creams that contain kojic acid, azelaic acid and tretinoin. Some may seek out chemical peels or steroid creams for help with the condition as well.
