Labia Reduction
Labia reduction surgery is often referred to by the medical term labiaplasty. This procedure involves surgically reducing the size of either the labia majora, the labia minora, or both. Labia reduction is performed for a number of different reasons, though most women who seek out this surgery do so to reduce pain and or discomfort that may be a result of elongated labia. Exercising, sex, and even sitting for long periods of time may be uncomfortable and even painful for those with enlarged or elongated labia. A smaller percentage of women choose to have this surgery for purely cosmetic reasons, in order to gain what they feel is a more attractive looking vagina. Surgery for this reason remains controversial, with many doctors arguing that an unhealthy self image may be the result of the media's fixation on physical perfection over diversity.
