Hermaphrodite
A hermaphrodite is a term commonly used to describe a person who has biological characteristics of both the male and female sexes, or whose gender cannot be easily medically determined. In recent years, the term hermaphrodite, which is seen by many as outdated and incorrect, has been replaced by the term intersexed. The term "true hermaphrodite," however, may still be used to describe a person with both testes and ovarian tissue, while the general term intersex may refer to a number of different conditions. Some hermaphrodites are operated on as infants or small children in order to "correct" their ambiguous genitals, though many parents now decide to delay surgery to give a child a chance to discover which gender he or she feels comfortable with. Some hermaphrodites eventually choose to forgo surgery all together.
