Botox
Botox is a commonly known as a cosmetically used substance to reduce age wrinkles around the face of patients. Side effects are minor and temporary in cosmetics uses, but lasting effects are possible and unknown. In addition to cosmetics, it can be used to treat spasticity (uncontrolled muscle tension), sever sweating, migraines and many other things. However, Botox is actually a shortened name for Botulnum toxin. Botox is a toxin created by bacteria, namely botulism, the bacteria that occur in meats. Scientifically, it is one of the most toxic substances known. After the discovery of its ability to block neuromuscular transmission in 1949, scientists were working to find its therapeutic effects by 1960. They are continuing work today to find further uses for the substance.
