Arophic Scar
Atrophic scar is one of the three types of scars and is characterized by a depression or a valley into the skin that may resemble a hole. Non-atrophic scars are either hypertrophic (elevated) or keloids (non-malignant tumors). Atrophic scars are often the result of acne. Sometimes surgery can be used to treat an atrophic scar though this can be difficult because unlike the mounds formed by keloids and hypertrophic scars atrophic scars are characterized by valleys that must be filled in as opposed to leveled off. Once the texture of an atrophic scar has been addressed products composed of silicone patches may be used for treatment. Mederma is another popular treatment for an atrophic scar. If you are considering treating an atrophic scar please consult a trained professional like a doctor, dermatologist or esthetician. Surgery is often the most effective way to treat an atrophic scar.
