Acne Scars
Acne scars are prominent physical marks on the skin left by untreated or mild, moderate, and severe acne. Acne scars are generally a cosmetic issue, they will not worsen without treatment, and however, patients can often experience psychological issues as a result. There are four main types of acne scars: ice pick, boxcar, rolling and hypertrophic. While scars generally resulting from surgery or injury are raised above the level of the skin ice pick, boxcar and rolling scars are pits that cut and depressed into the surface of the skin. Hypertrophic acne scars are the only acne scar characterized by a hill raised above the skin's surface. Laser surgery is a common treatment option for acne scars because it allows for a retexturing of the skin. Creams may be used as an alternative treatment option.
